Simon Leslie Daubney (born 17 July 1959)[1] is a New Zealandsailor who has sailed in theOlympics and is a member of theAmerica's Cup Hall of Fame.
Daubney was born inChristchurch, New Zealand, in 1959.[2]
Daubney sailed forNew Zealand at the 1984,1988 and1992 Summer Olympics. In 1984 he sailed in aSoling alongsideTom Dodson andAran Hansen and theyplaced 11th. At the1988 Olympics the same crew placed 7th. He competed withRussell Coutts andGraham Fleury in the1992 Olympics, placing 8th. He is New Zealand Olympian number 425.[1]
Daubney sailed forNew Zealand Challenge onKZ 7 during the1987 Louis Vuitton Cup. He was the mainsheet trimmer for New Zealand Challenge at the1992 Louis Vuitton Cup.
He was a trimmer onNZL 32 duringTeam New Zealand's1995 America's Cup victory and2000 America's Cup defence.
Daubney then joinedAlinghi and was part of their2003 America's Cup victory. He was a trimmer during the successful2007 America's Cup defence.[3] In 2007 Daubney tested positive for a recreational drug, but an America's Cup jury found that there was no fault or negligence and he was not sanctioned.[4][5] The decision was appealed by theWorld Anti-Doping Agency, and in January 2009, theCourt of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) imposed a backdated two-year ban that lasted until July 2009.[6]
Daubney then sailed onAlinghi 5 in the2010 America's Cup loss. In 2010 he was inducted into theAmerica's Cup Hall of Fame.
Daubney joinedOracle Racing and was part of the crew that sailed in the2011–13 America's Cup World Series.[7][8]
