Simon Alexander Brown (born 18 September 1983) is an Englishfootballer who plays forChasetown[2] as a midfielder.

He started his career withWest Bromwich Albion and wasloaned out toKidderminster Harriers twice inLeague Two, before joiningMansfield Town. Here, he scored ahat-trick in 14 minutes, which was the fastest in the history of the club. He was released by Mansfield following their relegation to theConference Premier and he signed forWrexham in 2008.

Born inWednesbury, West Midlands, Brown grew up as anAston Villa supporter.[3] He waseducated atWood Green High School and while playingfootball for their school side, he was spotted byWest Bromwich Albion and was signed on by the club at the age of 11.[3] He signed professional terms with the club in July 2003.[3] He joinedLeague Two sideKidderminster Harriers onloan in March 2004, where he impressed on his debut in a 1–1 draw againstLincoln City.[4] He returned to West Brom in May 2004, having scored twice in eight appearances at Kidderminster.[5] He went to Kidderminster on loan for a second time in July 2004 and made 14 appearances before breaking a bone in his leg in October 2004.[6][7][8] He made one more appearance for Kidderminster in the following month and then joinedMansfield Town in December 2004 on an 18-month contract for an initialfee of £50,000 and made 21 appearances in the remainder of the2004–05 season for Mansfield, scoring two goals.[7][9]

Brown had a fine2005–06 season and was Mansfield's second leading scorer behindRichie Barker with 12 goals before his season was ended by ahernia operation in April 2006.[10][11] He was offered a new contract in July 2006 and made 40 appearances in the2006–07 season, scoring five goals.[12][13] He was offered a further contract in May 2007 and in November scored ahat-trick in 14 minutes,[14][15] the fastest in the club's history, as Mansfield beatMacclesfield Town 5–0,[16] which earned him a place in the League Two team of the week.[17] After Mansfield Town wererelegated to theConference Premier at the end of the2007–08 season, he was released by the club.[18] Brown had made over 120 appearances in all competitions for Mansfield.[5] He joined newly relegated Conference Premier sideWrexham in June 2008 on a two-year contract.[19][20] In November 2008 he joinedRushden & Diamonds on loan until January 2009.[21] He made his debut in a 4–0 victory overAltrincham and returned to Wrexham following the expiry of the loan on 5 January, making three appearances for Rushden.[22][23]

He was involved in a controversy when he wrote a message on the Facebook profile of Wrexham teammateChristian Smith, which regardedWes Baynes's contract situation at the club, and caused an angry reaction by the fans.[24] Following the completion of his loan spell at Rushden, he was set to joinYork City on loan.[25] The move was completed on 15 January, when he signed for the rest of the2008–09 season.[26] He made his debut in a 3–0 victory againstLewes on 17 January as a right midfielder.[27] He featured as a striker as part of a4-3-3 formation in a 1–1 draw withAltrincham on 27 January.[28] He joinedTamworth on a month's loan on 13 November,[29] making nine appearances before returning to Wrexham in January 2010.[30] On 11 March 2010, he was released from his contract at Wrexham by mutual consent after failing to make a first team appearance for the club all season.[31] He later joinedEastwood Town and made his debut in a 2–1 defeat toWorkington.[32]
