Simon Beaufoy (/ˈbfɔɪ/; born 26 December 1966)[1] is a Britishscreenwriter.[2] Born inKeighley,West Riding of Yorkshire, he was educated atMalsis School inGlusburn,Ermysted's Grammar School andSedbergh School, he read English atSt Peter's College, Oxford and graduated fromArts University Bournemouth. In 1997, he earned anOscar nomination forBest Original Screenplay forThe Full Monty. He went on to win the 2009Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay forSlumdog Millionaire as well as winning aGolden Globe and aBAFTA award.[3] Beaufoy also earned furtherOscar,BAFTA andGolden Globe nominations for his co-written adaptation ofAron Ralston's autobiographyBetween a Rock and a Hard Place titled127 Hours.

Beaufoy has also completed adaptations ofThe Raw Shark Texts bySteven Hall and the 2011 film version ofSalmon Fishing in the Yemen byPaul Torday,[4] as well as new adaptations ofThe Full Monty as both astage play andlimited television series.[5]
