German footballer (born 1942)
Sigfried "Siggi "Held (born 7 August 1942) is a German formerfootball player[ 1] and coach. He played as anattacking midfielder orforward .
Born inFreudenthal ,Sudetenland (now Czech Republic), Held's first football club wasKickers Offenbach . In 1965 he became a player in theBundesliga withBorussia Dortmund . During his career he played 442 games (72 goals)[ 2] in the Bundesliga, for Dortmund, Offenbach andBayer 05 Uerdingen . He also made 41 appearances for theWest Germany national team , including the final of the1966 World Cup .[ 3]
After his retirement as a professional player in 1981 he became a football coach – 1982–83 forFC Schalke 04 , 1986–89 for theIceland national team , 1989–90 forGalatasaray , 1991–93 forAdmira Wacker Wien , 1993–95 forDynamo Dresden , 1995 forGamba Osaka and 1996–98 forVfB Leipzig .
From 2001–2003 he was coach for theMalta national team . In 2004, he became coach for theThailand national team , but was suspended after only five months. As of February 2009, he works as fan relations supervisor withBorussia Dortmund .
