Sigeberht the Little was king ofEssex from 623? to 653.[1] A Sigeberht was the son ofSæward, who was slain in battle against forces fromWessex in 623(?), and father of later kingSighere, but Yorke thought it more likely this was his successor,Sigeberht the Good.[2] Sigeberht the Little was considered apagan and most likely allied withPenda of Mercia in 635, who was also a pagan.[3]
After his death, he was succeeded by his relative, Sigeberht the Good.
