Patrick Marcil (born June 2, 1975) is aCanadianmixed martial arts andLethwei coach.[5] He is asifu (師傅traditional) inFangshendo, a modified form ofJeet Kune Do.[6] His students includeLethwei World ChampionDave Leduc andUFCmiddleweight fighterMarc-André Barriault.[7][8]

Career

In 1994, Patrick Marcil along with brother-in-law Stephane Patenaude opened their firstKung Fu school inOrléans and shortly after, their second school inGatineau,Quebec.[3][9][10]

In 2003, Marcil fought atWorld Extreme Battle inLaval, Quebec[6] winning his fight with a TKO at 2:17 in the first round.[6] At 165 pounds, the 26-year-old Marcil was set to fight in the 160lbs category, but instead faced an undefeated 180lb opponent.[11]

In 2009, Patrick Marcil began teachingSanshou toDave Leduc[12] at Kung Fu Patenaude inGatineau.[2] In theMyanmar Times, Leduc explains how Marcil[13] got him ready forLethwei[14][7] by teaching him the principles ofJeet Kune Do.[15]

In 2016, for his fights againstToo Too andTun Tun Min,[16] Leduc underwent his training camp in Canada with Marcil.[17]

In 2018, Marcil traveled toMyanmar for the first time to corner Leduc againstDiesellek TopkingBoxing[18] and returned in December of the same year forDave Leduc vs. Tun Tun Min III fight, where his student successfully defended his title.[19]

Marcil trains numerous professional MMA fighters inQuebec, Canada.[20] His coaching was featured inJet Li's defunct website,[21]VICE,[13]Le Droit,[22]Myanmar Times,[14]Asia Times,[1]La Presse,[23] andIci Radio-Canada.[24]
