Sidney Wolinsky is aCanadian-American (b.Winnipeg,Manitoba,Canada)[1] film editor with over 30 credits beginning in 1983. He won thePrimetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series for thepilot episode ofBoardwalk Empire (2010). Earlier, his work onThe Sopranos (1999–2007) earned him three Emmy nominations and twoACE Eddie Awards.[2]
The son of sculptorEva Stubbs[3] and Hyman Wolinsky,[4] he was born in Winnipeg, attended high school inMontreal and went toBrandeis University inMassachusetts. He received a master's degree in film from theCinema Department at San Francisco State University and worked briefly for theCanadian Broadcasting Corporation inToronto. He subsequently moved toLos Angeles.[1][5][6] His parents areJewish, and he had aBar Mitzvah.[5]
For theGuillermo del Toro dramaThe Shape of Water (2017), Wolinsky was nominated for theAcademy Award for Best Film Editing, theBAFTA Award for Best Editing, theCritics' Choice Movie Award for Best Editing and several other accolades.[7][8][9]
