TheShuswap Country, or simplythe Shuswap (/ˈʃuːʃwɑːp/SHOOSH-wahp) and calledSecwepemcúl̓ecw inSecwepemctsín, is a term used in theCanadian province ofBritish Columbia to refer to the environs ofShuswap Lake. The upper reaches of the Shuswap basin, southeast of Shuswap Lake and northeast of the Okanagan, are generally considered to be part ofOkanagan or of theMonashee Country rather than "the Shuswap". Roughly defined, the Shuswap Country begins on its west at the town ofChase, located onLittle Shuswap Lake, west of which is the South Thompson area of theThompson Country, and includesAdams Lake to the northwest of Shuswap Lake as well as communities in theEagle River area as far asCraigellachie and/orThree Valley Gap, which is at the summit ofEagle Pass, beyond which eastwards is theColumbia Country.
The Shuswap is often referred to in tandem form:Kamloops-Shuswap,Columbia-Shuswap,Okanagan-Shuswap/Shuswap-Okanagan.
