Shraddha Srinath (born 29 September 1990) is an Indian actress who predominantly appears inTamil,Kannada andTelugu films.[1] She is a recipient of twoFilmfare Awards South and aSIIMA Award.[2][3]

Shraddha made her debut with the Malayalam filmKohinoor (2015) and gained acclaim for her role in the Kannada thrillerU Turn (2016), earning theFilmfare Award for Best Actress - Kannada. She went on to establish herself with her performances inUrvi (2017),Vikram Vedha (2017),Operation Alamelamma (2017),Jersey (2019),Nerkonda Paarvai (2019),Chakra (2021) andIrugapatru (2023). ForOperation Alamelamma, she won theFilmfare Critics Award for Best Actress – Kannada.[4][5]

Early life

Shraddha was born on 29 September 1990 to a Kannada-speaking family in the town ofUdhampur,Jammu & Kashmir.[6][7][8] Her father was an officer in theKumaon Regiment of theIndian Army and her mother was a school teacher.[9] After completing her schooling from the Army School,Secunderabad, Shraddha moved toBangalore to study law at the Bangalore Institute of Legal Studies.[2]

Career

Early work and breakthrough (2015–2019)

After graduating from law school, she worked as a real estate lawyer at a Bangalore-based real estate company before joining a French retail company as a real estate legal advisor. While holding a full-time corporate job, she continued acting in plays and appearing in advertisements.[10]

Shraddha was called to play the second female lead in the Malayalam film calledKohinoor, directed by Vinay Govind, which released in September 2015.[11] Her Kannada debut came in 2016 withU Turn which was directed byPawan Kumar which premiered at theNew York Indian Film Festival and was subsequently released in India and worldwide.[12] Shraddha received critical acclaim for playing a journalist and won theFilmfare Award for Best Actress – Kannada. Shyam Prasad S ofBangalore Mirror noted that she gave a "class performance".[13] While Sunayana Suresh stated, "Shraddha is a good find and she is a talent to look out for in the future."[14]

Shraddha started 2017 with the release ofUrvi, directed by B. S. Pradeep Varma.[15] She debuted in the Tamil industry withMani Ratnam'sKaatru Veliyidai.[16] Later she played the female lead in R. Kannan'sIvan Thanthiran oppositeGautham Karthik.[17] InRichie she paired oppositeNivin Pauly, directed by Gautham Ramachandran.[18] Later, she appeared in a song ofThe Villain, along withShiva Rajkumar.[19] Shraddha also played a lawyer inPushkar Gayatri'sVikram Vedha oppositeR. Madhavan.[20] It was a box office success and Vikram Venkateswaran ofThe Quint noted, "Shraddha delivers a brilliant, but undersold performance. She has barely a few scenes to establish her presence."[21][22] She then appeared inOperation Alamelamma as a teacher oppositeRishi.[23] A Sharadhaa ofThe New Indian Express stated that she ably supports the flow of the film.[24]

In 2019, her first release was herBollywood debut withAli Fazal inMilan Talkies,[25]which is directed byTigmanshu Dhulia. AfterMilan Talkies, Shraddha marked her Telugu debut oppositeNani in the sports dramaJersey.[26] She played a working wife of an ex-cricketer and the film was a commercial success.[27][28] Janani K ofIndia Today stated, "Shraddha Srinath makes a brilliant Telugu debut with Jersey. As Sarah, she is an ever-supporting wife and not the one who will withstand all the troubles caused by her husband."[29] Her next release of the year was herTamil movieK-13,[30] where she is paired oppositeArulnithi. Her next release of the year was her Kannada movieRustum,[31] where she is paired opposite Shiva Rajkumar. Her next afterRustum wasNerkonda Paarvai, the Tamil remake ofHindi moviePink, withAjith.[32] Her next release of the year wasJodi, where she is paired oppositeAadi Saikumar. In 2020, she appeared inKrishna and His Leela oppositeSiddhu Jonnalagadda.[33]

Career expansion (2021–present)

In 2021, Shraddha appeared in two Tamil films –Maara andChakra.[34] In 2022, her first release wasMohanlal starrerMalayalam filmAaraattu.[35] She then appeared in Kannada filmDear Vikram oppositeSathish Ninasam and Tamil filmWitness.[36][37] Her only release of 2023 wasIrugapatru oppositeVikram Prabhu, a commercial success.[38] In 2024, she first appeared inSaindhav oppositeVenkatesh.[39] Her next release came withMechanic Rocky, where she appeared oppositeVishwak Sen.[40] Aditya Devulapally ofThe New Indian Express stated, "Shraddha brings depth to an otherwise underwritten role, leaving you wishing for a better backstory."[41]

Shraddha's first release of 2025 came withDaaku Maharaaj, where she played an IAS officer Nandini oppositeBobby Deol. The film was a box office success and became her highest grossing release.[42] BH Harsh ofCinema Express noted, "Shraddha gets an interesting character to play and leaves an impression despite limited screen time."[43] She then appeared inKaliyugam.[44]

Shraddha has established herself as a leading actress in Kannada cinema.[45] In theBangalore Time Most Desirable Women list, she was placed 5th in 2017,[46] 9th in 2018,[47] 28th in 2019,[48] and 16th in 2020.[49]
