Shiv Pratap Shukla (born 1 April 1952) is an Indian politician and statesman. Currently, he is the 22ndGovernor of Himachal Pradesh since 2023. He was theMinister of State for Finance in theFirst Modi ministry.[2] He was aMember of Parliament in the upper house (Rajya Sabha) of theIndian Parliament represented the Indian state,Uttar Pradesh.

Shukla campaigned in the General Elections in 1989 and was elected a member of theUttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, defeating Shri Sunil Shastri of INC.[3] He was elected asMember of the Legislative Assembly four consecutive times in 1989, 1991, 1993 and 1996.[3]

Minister of state in the BJP government

Shukla was appointed a state minister inBharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led governments in Uttar Pradesh. He was appointed the cabinet Minister for Jails[4][5][6] in 1996–1998 underBharatiya Janata PartyBahujan Samaj Party a short-lived coalition government ofMayawati andKalyan Singh and later on appointed Minister for Rural Development[7] in year 1998–2002 under BJP government ofRajnath Singh.
