Shine Distillery and Grill is adistillery which previously operated a bar and restaurant inPortland, Oregon'sBoise neighborhood, in the United States.

Shine is adistillery which previously operated abar and restaurant at the corner of Williams and Skidmore innortheast Portland,[1] serving gin, vodka, and whiskey. The two-floor, 250-capacity venue had a family-friendly dining area and an upstairs with a patio for patrons 21 and older. Jonathan Poteet is the owner; Shannon Mosley and Julian Solomon were the master distiller and chef, respectively, as of mid 2019.[2][3] Shine was the first restaurant, distillery and food service business of its kind in Oregon.[4] The restaurant was also described as agay bar and a "queer space" byPortland Monthly andEater Portland, respectively.[5][6]

History

The restaurant opened in July 2019.[2] Operations were scheduled to start in December 2018,[7] but were delayed because of the2018–2019 United States federal government shutdown.[3][8][9][10]

Shine began producing hand sanitizer from alcohol for customers during theCOVID-19 pandemic.[11][12][13] The business also hosteddrive-through performances bydrag queens, includingBolivia Charmichaels andLulu Luscious in 2020.[14][15][16] The series returned in 2021.[17]

The restaurant closed in 2023, though Poteet hopes to continue operating the distillery.[18]
