Development

[edit]

On January 23, 2024,CBS was set to develop a police spin-off series ofFire Country, continuing from a back-door pilot episode in season two, with and Erika Kennair executive producing through JBTV &CBS Studios, and withMorena Baccarin attached to lead.[15] The episode titled "Alert the Sheriff" introduced Baccarin's character, Edgewater County Sheriff's Sergeant Mickey Fox. On May 2, 2024, it received a straight-to-series order,[16] withCBS Studios joining the production of what would later be titledSheriff Country, with filming set to take place in Toronto,[17][18][19] rather than in Vancouver like the original, so Baccarin could be closer to her family in New York.[20][21] On June 19, 2024, Matt Lopez was set to be the showrunner of "Sheriff Country," and an executive producer.[22] A fall 2025 premiere was confirmed in March 2025 with a promo airing during broadcasts ofMarch Madness.[23] Production on the spin-off began in May 2025[24][25] in the Toronto area[26][27][28] with twelve scripts already written, and in July 2025 the premiere date was set for October 17, with the show airing regularly before the original on Fridays after the premiere.[29] A first teaser trailer was released in August 2025.[30]
