Shekalim is the fourth tractate in the order ofMoed in theMishnah. Its main subject is thehalf-shekel tax that ancient Jews paid every year to make possible the maintenance and proper functioning of theTemple in Jerusalem. There is noGemara about the treatise in theBabylonian Talmud, but there is one in theJerusalem Talmud, and the latter is often printed in the editions of the Babylonian Talmud.[1][2]
