Shayrat (Arabic:الشعيرات,romanized: ash-Shuʿayrāt, also spelledSha'irat) is a village in centralSyria, administratively part of theHoms Governorate, located southeast ofHoms on the western fringes of theSyrian Desert. Nearby localities includeDardaghan to the west,al-Manzul andal-Riqama to the northwest,Sadad to the south andal-Hamrat to the southwest. According to theCentral Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Shayrat had a population of 1,443 in the 2004 census.[1] Shayrat had been classified as an abandoned village orkhirba by English scholarEli Smith in 1838.[2]
