Shaun Teale (born 10 March 1964) is an English football manager and former professionalfootballer.

He played as adefender from 1983 until 2004 and was notably part of theLeague Cup winning team ofAston Villa in 1994.He also played in theFootball League forAFC Bournemouth,Tranmere Rovers,Preston North End andCarlisle United, theScottish Premier League forMotherwell. As well as having a spell in Hong Kong withSing Tao he has played at a Non-league level forWeymouth,Southport,Burscough andNorthwich Victoria before moving into management with the two latter clubs, as well as having a spell in charge ofChorley.

Playing career

He was a central defender who joinedAFC Bournemouth from non-leagueWeymouth for £50,000 in 1989. He spent three seasons at Bournemouth before moving toAston Villa in July 1991.[2] He helped them finish runners-up in thePremier League in 1993 and win theFootball League Cup a year later, before losing his place in the first team toUgo Ehiogu.

He moved from Villa to joinTranmere Rovers for £500,000 in the summer of 1995.[3][4] He made his Tranmere debut on 12 August 1995 againstWolves and played in 29 league games for Tranmere in his first season with them.[4] Whilst with Rovers he had loan spells withPreston North End andSing Tao SC, before signing forMotherwell in August 1998.[2]

Teale moved from Motherwell toCarlisle United on a free transfer in February 2000, playing 20 games for the Cumbrian club.[2] He then went on to joinSouthport, playing for them until the age of 40, before moving into non-league coaching and management.[5]

Managerial career

Teale was appointed manager ofBurscough, a team in theNorthern Premier League Premier Division. Whilst he was there, the side won the 2003FA Trophy, in the final of which he played.[6]

Teale left Burscough six weeks after the Trophy win, and has since managedNorthwich Victoria, aFootball Conference team in the 2003/04 season.[7] Teale left Northwich at the end of the 2003/04 season.[8]

Between February 2005 and August 2006, Teale managedNorthern Premier League First Division sideChorley, before leaving to run his pub and restaurant business inBurscough.[9][10]

It was announced on 8 March 2013 he applied for Management ofAFC Telford United withPeter Withe.

Personal life

Between 2008 and 2009, Teale was the owner of the Farmer's Arms pub inBurscough.[11] On 3 September 2010, it was announced that Teale had come out of retirement to sign for Southport and District Sunday League Premier Division side The Herald.[12]
