Director Shannon Murphy

Shannon Murphy is an Australian film and television director. She made her feature film debut withBabyteeth (2019), for which she was nominated for theBAFTA Award for Best Direction in 2021.[1]

Early life and education

Murphy was raised inHong Kong.[2] In 2013, she received agraduate diploma in directing from theAustralian Film, Television and Radio School.[3]

Career

Murphy's graduating short film,Kharisma (2014), was screened atCannes Film Festival.[4] Her short filmEaglehawk (2016) was selected for the Dendy Awards at theSydney Film Festival in 2016.[5]

Murphy's debut feature film,Babyteeth (2019), starsEliza Scanlen as a terminally ill teen.[6][7] It was nominated for best film at the2019 Venice Film Festival.[8] It earned positive reviews inRolling Stone,[9]Vanity Fair,[10] andVariety.[7]

Murphy directed episodes five and six of the third season ofKilling Eve, which premiered in 2020.[2]

Variety listed her as one of the "10 directors to watch" in 2020.[11]
