Shannon Marie DeVoe (néeMcDonnell; born 28 September 1984) is a formersoccer midfielder, who represented theRepublic of Ireland women's national football team. On the club level she most recently played forWomen's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) clubChicago Red Stars, having previously played in theW-League withWindy City Bluez andChicago Gaels.
DeVoe attendedCarl Sandburg High School[1] then spent four years at theUniversity of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, playing varsity soccer as well as studying speech and hearing sciences.[1]
While at college DeVoe played forWindy City Bluez in the 2004W-League season.[2] She also featured forChicago Gaels in 2006.[3]
In July 2009 DeVoe and sisterMary Therese McDonnell played for the Irish national team against Mary Therese's club sideChicago Red Stars in an exhibition game at theSports Complex at Benedictine University.[4]
Shannon signed for the Red Stars herself in June 2011, after the club left theWomen's Professional Soccer and reconstituted itself at the lower level of theWomen's Premier Soccer League. She was also hired as the club's camps director.[5]
Devos first represented theRepublic of Ireland during a summer 2009 training camp inIndiana.[6] Shannon and younger sister Mary Therese McDonnell then featured in Ireland's failed qualifying campaigns for the2011 FIFA Women's World Cup andUEFA Women's Euro 2013.[6] Their eligibility for the Irish team derived from their grandfather, who was fromFoxford.[7]
After her playing career DeVoe began working as an assistant coach for theColorado Mines Orediggers' women's soccer team. She married the Orediggers wrestling coach Austin DeVoe.[8]
