TheShanghai International Marathon (Chinese:上海國際馬拉松;pinyin:Shànghǎi Guójì Mǎlāsōng is an annualmarathon in late autumn hosted byShanghai,China, since 1996. The marathon is categorized as aPlatinum Label Road Race byWorld Athletics.[4]

The marathon starts at theBund Bull and finishes atShanghai Stadium.[5]

History

The inaugural race was held in 1996 as the "Shanghai International Citizen Marathon".[6]

For the 2020 edition of the race, due to thecoronavirus pandemic, only the full marathon was run, the field was limited to 9,000 domestic runners, and the finish was moved to theWest Bund Art Center.[3][2]

The marathon starts at theBund Bull and finishes atShanghai Stadium.[7]

Other races

In addition to the marathon, the event offers a10K run and amini marathon of 5.5 km (3.4 mi) in length.[3] All three races begin at theBund Bull, but the mini marathon ends at theShanghai Exhibition Centre while the 10K ends atFuxing Park.[7][9]

Winners

The men's course record was set in 2023 as Kenya'sPhilimon Kiptoo Kipchumba of 2:05:35 hours and KenyanBrigid Kosgei broke the women's record in 2025 with 2:16:36 hours.
