Shadvidamargini (pronouncedShaḍvidamārgini, meaningthe one with the path to six forms of knowledge) is aragam inCarnatic music (musical scale of South Indian classical music). It is the 46thmelakarta rāgam (parent scale) in the 72melakarta rāgam system of Carnatic music. It is calledStavarājam inMuthuswami Dikshitar school of Carnatic music.[1][2][3]
It is the 4th rāgam in the 8thchakra Vasu. The mnemonic name isVasu-Bhu. The mnemonic phrase issa ra gi mi pa dhi ni.[2] Itsārohaṇa-avarohaṇa structure (ascending and descending scale) is as follows (seeswaras in Carnatic music for details on below notation and terms):
Theswaras shuddha rishabham, sadharana gandharam, prati madhyamam, chathusruthi dhaivatham andkaisiki nishadham are used in this scale. As it is amelakarta rāgam, by definition it is asampoorna rāgam (has all seven notes in ascending and descending scale). It is theprati madhyamam equivalent ofNatakapriya, which is the 10thmelakarta scale.

Shadvidamargini's notes when shifted usingGraha bhedam, yieldsNasikabhooshani, a minormelakarta rāgam.Graha bhedam is the step taken in keeping the relative note frequencies same, while shifting theshadjam to the next note in the rāgam.
