TheSexenio Revolucionario orSexenio Democrático ("six revolutionary/democratic years") is a period of six years between 1868 and 1874 in thehistory of Spain.

TheSexenio Democrático starts on 29 September 1868 with the overthrow of QueenIsabella II of Spain after theGlorious Revolution, and ends on 29 December 1874 with theBourbon Restoration, when Isabella's sonAlfonso XII became King after a coup d'état byArsenio Martínez-Campos.

The sexenio spawned the most progressive 19th-century Spanish constitution, the1869 Constitution, the one dedicating the most space to the rights of the Spanish citizens.[1]
