Kim Seung-min was born on September 22, 2000, in Seoul, South Korea. In an interview withXsport News, Seungmin expressed that he initially wanted to become a baseball player, having played baseball as a right-handedpitcher when he was young.[1] Seungmin graduated fromChungdam High School on February 14, 2019.[2] On February 23, 2017, Seungmin won second place in JYP Entertainment's 13th Open Audition and was accepted as a trainee underJYP Entertainment.[3]
In 2017, Seungmin appeared in the JYP survival showStray Kids, a show which allowed him to debut asStray Kids member.[4]
Kim Seungmin officially debuted withStray Kids on March 25, 2018, through their debut showcase of the group, Stray Kids Unveil (Op. 01: I Am Not), atJangchung Arena.[5][6] On the next day, Seungmin with Stray Kids released an EP titledI Am Not and the lead single "District 9" which they showcased during the debut showcase.[7] In this album, he also participated in the lyrics making of song "Mixtape #1".[a] On July 24, Seungmin was selected as the Regular MC ofAfter School Club withJimin andHan Hee-jun.[9] On July 12 to October 11, 2019, he was the MC for the variety programWe K-Pop withKim Shin-young,2PM'sNickhun, andSF9's Inseong.[10]
On March 25, 2021, "Piece of a Puzzle", a song co-written with Stray Kids membersBang Chan andChangbin, was released in celebration of Stray Kids' 3rd Debut Anniversary.[11] The song was later included as a track of theSKZ-Replay album in December 2022. In the same year, he released a cover ofJustin Bieber's song "Ghost" as part of Stray Kids'SKZ-Record series.[12] On October 10, Seungmin released his first original soundtrack "Here Always" for South Korean dramaHometown Cha-Cha-Cha.[13] The song debuted at number 13 onCircle Download Chart issue dated October 10 to 16.[14]
On October 19, 2022, Seungmin released his second original soundtrack "Close to You" forLove in Contract.[15] The song debuted at number 154 on the Circle Download Chart issue dated October 16 to 22.[16] On December 21, Seungmin's solo song "Stars and Raindrops" was released and included as part of the compilation albumSKZ-Replay.[17]
On August 13, 2023, Seungmin released "Hold On" onYouTube for the SKZ-Record project.[18]
On March 7, 2024,Genie TV's originalThe Midnight Studio announced that Seungmin will participate in the drama's original soundtrack.[19] The drama OST title "Destiny" was revealed and released later on April 9, 2024.[20] "Destiny" was debuted at number 103 on the Circle Download Chart issue dated April 7 to 13.[21] On March 15, 2024, Seungmin released an original soundtrack "Phobia" forWeb novel andWebtoon titledI'm the Queen in this Life.[22] The OST debuted at number 160 at the Circle Download Chart issue dated March 10 to 16.[23] On March 18, Seungmin was selected as thefirst pitch for a special game between Team Korea and theLA Dodgers as part of theMLB World Tour Seoul Series 2024 withCoupang Play.[24]
On February 28, 2025, the production team oftvN's weekend dramaThe Potato Lab announced that Seungmin will participate in its original soundtrack. The song, "My Destiny", was released on March 2, 2025.[25] The OST debuted at number 139 at the Circle Download Chart issue dated March 2 to 8.[26]
In November 2023, Seungmin appeared on the special cover ofNylon Japan, in collaboration withCoach for their holiday campaign in Japan.[27]
On March 1, 2024, Seungmin made his fashion week debut attending theLoewe Fall Winter 2024 Women's Show held in Paris.[28]BritishVogue featured him in their article on best front-row styles of PFW.[29] In May 2024, he made hisMet Gala debut withStray Kids as the guest ofTommy Hilfiger.[30]
In September 2023, Seungmin, along with fellow Stray Kids membersLee Know andHyunjin, was involved in a car accident that led to their absence from theGlobal Citizen Festival performance. None of the members sustained serious injuries.[31]
