Serraepolis orSerraipolis (Ancient Greek:Σερραίπολις) was a town ofancient Cilicia inAsia Minor on the lower course of riverPyramos. It was also known under the namesSerretillis (Σερρέτιλλις),Ser(r)opolis,Serrai kome andSiris, as well asKassipolis byPliny.
It was acolony established bySiropaiones, aPaeonian tribe that was annexed byMacedon whosemetropolis was Siris (modernSerres), and after which it was named. It was located 150stadia from another Macedonian colony called Aegeae (modernYumurtalık) and 250stadia fromAntioch (modernAntakya). Although the exact foundation time of the city is unknown, it would be safe to assume that it was either established by Paeonian refugees, forcibly resettled by the Persian generalMegabazus in 486 B.C., or established during theHellenistic period by colonists from Siris that followedAlexander the Great and theSeleucids.
In place of the ancient Greek city today lies the modern city Sirintilinin Çiftlik in southeasternTurkey.[1]
