Sergi Altimira Clavell (born 25 August 2001) is a Spanish professionalfootballer who plays as adefensive midfielder forLa Liga clubReal Betis.
Born inCardedeu,Barcelona,Catalonia, Altimira joinedFC Barcelona'sLa Masia in 2012, from hometown club FC Cardedeu. In 2019, he leftBarça and joinedCE Sabadell FC.
On 29 May 2020, after finishing his formation, Altimira was loaned toTercera División sideEC Granollers forthe season.[1] He made his senior debut on 1 November, coming on as a second-halfsubstitute in a 7–0 away routing ofUE Figueres.[2]
Upon returning to Sabadell, Altimira was included in the first team squad by managerAntonio Hidalgo, and renewed his contract with the club on 7 September 2021.[3] He played 29 times for the side in all competitions during the2021–22 campaign.[4]
Altimira's performances has led to interest in his services from his former club Barcelona, amongst others.[5][6][7] Strong interest was reported to be present from theGerard Piqué'sFC Andorra, as well as fromLa Liga sideVillarreal CF.[8] However, despite Barcelona's efforts to sign Altimira on the final day of thetransfer window in August 2022, they were unable to agree terms on the transfer leaving Altimira remaining under contract to Sabadell until June 2023.[9][10]
On 31 January 2023,Marca reported that Altimira had an agreement to join top tier clubGetafe CF on a four-year contract upon the conclusion of his contract with Sabadell.[11] On 6 July, the club officially announced his signing.[12]
On 11 August 2023, Altimira signed a five-year contract withReal Betis also in the top tier, after the club paid his€ 2 million release clause.[13][14]
Altimira's fatherAureli and his cousinAdrià are also footballers.[15][16] The former played as aforward, while the latter is adefender; both were also groomed atBarça.
