Senegal–Turkey relations are thebilateral relations betweenSenegal andTurkey. Turkey has an embassy inDakar since 1962. Senegal has an embassy inAnkara which was opened in August 2006.[1] Both countries are members of theOrganisation of Islamic Cooperation.

Diplomatic relations

Turkey and Senegal historically have had very friendly relations.[2]

Turkey assisted Senegal while it was going through theSahel drought of 1966–1973 that coincided withFrance’s abandonment of colonial support.[3] Mindful that the population growth far outstripped[4] economic growth in Senegal, Turkey has constructed and subsequently managed schools in Senegal through theMaarif Foundation.[3]

Turkey was particularly supportive ofAbdou Diouf, who was considered a brilliant and technocratic[2] prime minister. Turkey supportedAbdou Diouf’s liberalization[3] of the political process whereby he allowed a further 13 political parties to run for the1983 election.[5]

Economic relations

  • There are daily direct flights fromIstanbul to Dakar.[1]
  • TIKA’sWestern Africa headquarters is located in Dakar since April 2007.[1]
