TheSemichi Islands (Samiyan[1] inAleut;Russian:Семичи) are a cluster of small islands in theNear Islands group of theAleutian Islands,Alaska. They are located southeast ofAttu Island and northeast ofAgattu Island, near52°44′06″N173°59′28″E / 52.73500°N 173.99111°E /52.73500; 173.99111. Named islands in the group includeAlaid Island,Hammerhead Island,Lotus Island,Nizki Island, andShemya.
The Semichi Islands are an important nesting area forred-faced cormorants andglaucous-winged gulls. They also provides important habitat for waterfowl: The Aleutian subspecies ofcackling goose nests on the islands in significant numbers, andcommon eider andemperor goose winter in the area.Black oystercatchers are also found in significant numbers.[2]
