Semantor is an extinct genus of stem-pinniped that belongs to and is thetype genus for the familySemantoridae. It lived inKazakhstan during the upperMiocene epoch.[1] It is amonotypic genus containing one species,Semantor macrurus.[2]
It has characteristics similar to that ofotters andseals possibly occupying a similar life-style but part of a different clade of animals.[3]
