Selina Y. Wang (born May 8, 1993) is an American television journalist and reporter, who has served as seniorWhite House Correspondent forABC News since August 2023.[2][4][5] She was previouslyCNN'sinternational correspondent based in Beijing and Tokyo.[6] She has also worked forBloomberg News as an anchor, correspondent, reporter and magazine writer.[7] In 2023, she won an Emmy at the44th News and Documentary Emmy Awards, and was featured theForbes 30 Under 30 Asia List.[8][6]
Wang was born inRichland,Washington,[1][9] before attendingBarrington High School inBarrington, Rhode Island where she was an accomplished flautist[10][11] and namedMiss Rhode Island's Outstanding Teen.[12] She graduated fromHarvard University with a degree in economics and a secondary degree in government[1] where she was a member of theHarvard Crimson.[13] Her parentsLai-Sheng Wang[14] and Li-Qiong Wang[15] are both faculty in the Department of Chemistry atBrown University.
Wang began her career as a journalist atBloomberg News in New York City.[7] She then moved to San Francisco, covering the global technology industry,venture capital and social media industry for Bloomberg News and Television andBloomberg Businessweek magazine.[16] Later, she moved to Beijing, China to anchor and correspondent forBloomberg Television.
Wang joined CNN as an international correspondent based in Asia.[1] She moved to Japan and in 2021 covered theTokyo Summer Olympics, held under thecoronavirus pandemic.[17] Six months later, she was CNN's only news correspondent reporting from inside theBeijing Winter Olympics "covid bubble." Wang was a host of CNN's business feature show "Marketplace Asia." In the spring of 2022, Wang moved back to Beijing for CNN as the network's sole correspondent inmainland China,[1] and is notable for being the only American broadcaster reporting on the ground in China during the historic anti-zero-COVID protests.[4] She reported on a wide range of stories from China, including risingUS-China tensions,Xi Jinping’s unprecedentedthird-term as the country's supreme leader,China's relationship with Taiwan, and the impact of the country'scoronavirus pandemic restrictions.[1][18][19]
In 2023, Wang won theEmmy Award's Outstanding Emerging Journalist.[8] Wang was named on theForbes 30 Under 30 Asia List in 2023.[6]
