Sedigheh Vasmaghi (Persian:صدیقه وسمقی, born 1961) is anIranian lawyer, poet, andreformist politician.[1] From 1999 to 2003, she was a member of theCity Council of Tehran and served as the first spokesperson of the council.[2] She is described as a "post-Islamist activist and intellectual".[3]
In 2023, she addresses an open letter to the leaderAli Khamenei where she affirms that theQuran does not justify the obligation to wear thehijab.[4]
In a statement signed by 15 religious Intellectuals, she supportsAbdolhamid Ismaeelzahi, sunni cleric who is facing crackdown because of his criticism against the Iranian regime during theMahsa Amini protests.[5]
