Thesecretary of justice of Puerto Rico (Spanish:secretario de justicia de Puerto Rico) (known as theattorney general of Puerto Rico (Spanish:Procurador general de Puerto Rico) prior to theConstitution of Puerto Rico in 1952) is thechief legal officer and theattorney general of thegovernment of Puerto Rico. The secretary of justice is second inline of succession to thegovernorship of Puerto Rico.
The attorney general was appointed by thepresident of the United States and confirmed by theU.S. Senate.
Under theConstitution of Puerto Rico, adopted in 1952, the office of Attorney General was renamed to Secretary of Justice. The secretary is appointed by theGovernor of Puerto Rico and confirmed by theSenate of Puerto Rico.[2]
