The formerSecond Church of Christ, Scientist is a historicChristian Science church building located atCentral Park West andWest 68th Street on theUpper West Side ofManhattan,New York City, within theCentral Park West Historic District.[1] TheBeaux-Arts building was designed by architect Frederick R. Comstock and constructed in 1899–1901.[1][2] The building was restored beginning in 2005 bySydness Architects which planned to clean the facade, reinforce thestained-glass windows, and waterproof the copper dome and illuminate the skylight.[3]
In 2003 Second Church of Christ, Scientist merged withFirst Church of Christ, Scientist, whose building at 96th Street was later sold to theCrenshaw Christian Center. The merged congregation uses the nameFirst Church of Christ, Scientist, and worships at the former Second Church on 68th Street.[4]
