
TheSecond Archipelago Expedition[a] was an expedition by theImperial Russian Navy'sBaltic Fleet under AdmiralDmitry Senyavin into theMediterranean between 1805 and 1807. It formed part of theWar of the Third Coalition,War of the Fourth Coalition and theRusso-Turkish War of 1806–1812. Senyavin's fleet defeated theOttoman Navy at theBattle of the Dardanelles and theBattle of Athos and, in combination with Russian successes on land near theDanube and in theCaucasus, forced theSublime Porte to conclude a truce with Russia in August 1807. After the conclusion of thePeace of Tilsit withNapoleon, the Russian navy lifted its blockade of theDardanelles and returned to theBaltic Sea.[citation needed]
