Sebastian Felipe Xavier Fernández-Garcia Armesto (born 3 June 1982) is an English film, television and theatre actor. He is the son of historianFelipe Fernández-Armesto.
Armesto playedCharles V, Holy Roman Emperor in the seriesThe Tudors. He starred in the 2008ITV drama seriesThe Palace as the King's carefree younger brother Prince George.[1] He then played the character of Edmund Sparkler in the 2008BBC version ofCharles Dickens' novelLittle Dorrit. In the 2011 filmPirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Armesto played the Spanish KingFerdinand VI. He played the poet and playwrightBen Jonson inRoland Emmerich's filmAnonymous. In 2015 he played Lieutenant Dopheld Mitaka inStar Wars: The Force Awakens.[2] He also played Tankard in thePoldark series in 2016 (seven episodes).[citation needed]
Armesto has also been in two stories of the British sci-fi seriesDoctor Who ("Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways", 2005) and Comte Louis de Provence inMarie Antoinette.[citation needed]
In March 2019, Armesto joinedCursed, aNetflix original television series based on a reimaging of theArthurian legend, in the role of Uther Pendragon.[3] The first season was released on 17 July 2020.[citation needed]
Armesto has acted in theatre productions in Britain, including three shows at the National Theatre and one at the Royal Court. He also writes and directs theatre with companySimple 8. His productions include directing and adaptingLes Enfants du Paradis.[4][5][6] He co-wrote and directed a play based onWilliam Hogarth'sThe Four Stages of Cruelty[7] and new versions ofThe Cabinet of Dr. Caligari andMoby-Dick.[8]
