Sean P. Trende (born January 6, 1973) is an American journalist andpolitical analyst specializing in American elections analysis. He is a Senior Elections Analyst atRealClearPolitics. He has regularly appeared as a guest onFox News,NPR’sAll Things Considered, andCNN Radio. TheWashington Times calls him "a premier political number cruncher". He is the author ofLost Majority, published byPalgrave Macmillan.[1] On September 12, 2012,National Journal announced that Trende would be a co-author of the 2014Almanac of American Politics.[2]

Trende holds a B.A. degree fromYale University, anM.A. inpolitical science, aJ.D. fromDuke University, a masters in applied statistics and a PhD fromThe Ohio State University.[3] He practiced law for eight years atKirkland & Ellis LLP andHunton & Williams LLP before becoming a full-time political analyst.[4] After living inMidlothian,Virginia with his wife and children, as of 2017 he lives in the Columbus, Ohio area and is working part-time as a professor atOhio State University.[5][unreliable source?][6][7]

In 2021, Trende was selected as one of two redistrictingspecial masters by theSupreme Court of Virginia, after it was tasked with redrawingthe state's congressional and legislative districts following the2020 United States census. Republican legislative leadersTommy Norment andTodd Gilbert had included Trende as part of a replacement list of nominees for the post, after the three nominees on their initial list were all disqualified by the Court for suspected partisanship.[8][9][10]
