Scott Beck (born October 22, 1984) andBryan Woods (born September 14, 1984) are an American filmmaking duo. They created the story for and co-wrote thepost-apocalyptichorror filmA Quiet Place (2018), and wrote and directed thesupernatural thrillerNightlight (2015), theslasher filmHaunt (2019), the science fiction film65 (2023), and thepsychological horror filmHeretic (2024).[1]
Beck was born inDenver, Colorado and Woods was born inDavenport, Iowa. Both were raised inBettendorf, Iowa. While attending theUniversity of Iowa together, the two foundedBluebox Films and made the filmsHer Summer andUniversity Heights. The pair secured a development deal withMTV Films after winningMTVU's Best Film on Campus competition with the film.[2][3]
In 2015, Beck and Woods wrote and directedNightlight, released byLionsgate. In 2016, Beck and Woods sold their original screenplay forA Quiet Place toParamount Pictures. The film starsEmily Blunt andJohn Krasinski, the latter of whom also directed and co-wrote the script.[4]A Quiet Place was released in April 2018 to critical acclaim; it has aRotten Tomatoes approval rating of 95%. It became a major box office hit, grossing over $330 million worldwide.[5][6]
The duo also wrote and directed the thrillerHaunt, produced byEli Roth.[7] In June 2018, Beck and Woods signed on to write and executive-produce a film adaptation of Stephen King's short storyThe Boogeyman for20th Century Fox and21 Laps Entertainment.[8] Beck & Woods developed the television seriesZeroes forSony Pictures Television andDavis Entertainment. The series is based on the novel by the New York Times best-selling authorScott Westerfeld,Margo Lanagan, andDeborah Biancotti.
In May 2020, it was announced that Beck and Woods would write, direct, and produce65 forSony Pictures and producerSam Raimi.[9] The film starsAdam Driver.[10]
In June 2023, it was reported thatHugh Grant would star in Beck and Woods' next filmHeretic, which they wrote, directed, and produced forA24.[11]
Beck and Woods are co-owners of The Last Picture House, an independent arthouse cinema inDavenport, Iowa.[12]
