Scone Shire was alocal government area in theHunter region ofNew South Wales, Australia. The shire offices were located in the town ofScone.[1]
It was established on 1 January 1958 following the amalgamation of theMunicipality of Scone with the originalUpper Hunter Shire.[2] The shire had surrounded the municipality and the offices of both had been located in the town.[3][4]
It amalgamated with parts of the abolishedMerriwa Shire andMurrurundi Shire to form a new, largerUpper Hunter Shire on 17 March 2004.[5]
