Scarpetta, also known asKay Scarpetta,^[2] is an upcoming American television series developed byLiz Sarnoff. It is based onthe book series of the same name byPatricia Cornwell, and is produced byNicole Kidman andJamie Lee Curtis, who star. The series is slated to premiere onAmazon Prime Video on March 11, 2026.

Kay Scarpetta is a brilliant and beautiful forensic pathologist, the protagonist in a beloved series of crime novels. Inspired by formerVirginiaChief Medical ExaminerMarcella Farinelli Fierro MD (retired), she employs advancedforensic technology to unravel mysteries and solvecrimes. Throughout the series, Scarpetta, of Italian descent, navigates her investigative journey across various settings, including Florida, Virginia, and Charleston, South Carolina.^[3][4]

In June 2021, it was reported that a television series adaptation of novel series is in development from Comet Pictures, a production company owned byJamie Lee Curtis and Blumhouse Television.^[13][14][15] Patricia Cornwell, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jason Blum, Chris McCumber, Jeremy Gold and Chris Dickie would serve as the show's executive producers.^[13]

In February 2023, it was announced that Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis would join the cast and also serve as executive producers on the show.^[3][4] This marked the first instance of Scarpetta's transition from page to screen despite numerous prior attempts.^[16][17] Initially, in 1992,Demi Moore was briefly associated with the Scarpetta character, whileAngelina Jolie was contemplating a big-screen franchise based on the role in 2009.^[18][19][20] A two-season order, each consisting of eight episodes, was anticipated for the series.^[21] At the beginning, when the project was announced, no showrunner was attached.^[22][23] However, it was later confirmed thatLiz Sarnoff would step in as the series' writer and showrunner.^[3]David Gordon Green and Amy Sayres also served as executive producers.^[24]

Although the series was initially announced asKay Scarpetta, the title was changed toScarpetta when the casting updates were revealed.^[2][25]David Gordon Green was reported to be directing the first two episodes.^[12]Charlotte Brändström was noted as one of the directors.^[26][27]

In February 2023,Nicole Kidman was cast in the series in the titular role, alongsideJamie Lee Curtis playing Kay's sister Dorothy.^[3] In September 2024,Ariana DeBose,Bobby Cannavale,Simon Baker,Rosy McEwen, andJake Cannavale joined the cast.^[28][5] Later that same month,Sosie Bacon,Amanda Righetti,Janet Montgomery,Stephanie Faracy andMike Vogel were added to the cast.^[6] In October 2024,Hunter Parrish was reported to star.^[7] In November 2024,Tiya Sircar,Anna Diop,Graham Phillips andGeorgia King were announced to star in recurring roles.^[9] In March 2025, Charlie B. Foster was announced to have joined the cast in a recurring role.^[8]

Filming was originally scheduled to begin inNashville in September 2024^[29] but was later postponed to October 2024.^[30] On March 8, 2025, Curtis announced that filming of the first season had wrapped.^[31]

Scarpetta is scheduled to premiere onAmazon Prime Video on March 11, 2026 and the first season will consist of 8 episodes.^[32][33]
