InMandaeism,Ṣaureil, also spelledṢauriel orṢaurʿil (Classical Mandaic:ࡑࡀࡅࡓࡏࡉࡋ,Modern Mandaic pronunciation:[sˤauriˈel]), is the angel of death. Ṣaureil features prominently in Book 1 of theLeft Ginza as the angel who announces the message of death toAdam andShitil (Seth).^[1]

Ṣaureil is also anepithet for the Moon (Sen).^[2]

He is also known asṢaureil Qmamir Ziwa (Classical Mandaic:ࡑࡀࡅࡓࡏࡉࡋ ࡒࡌࡀࡌࡉࡓ ࡆࡉࡅࡀ; orQamamir-Ziwa^[2]) in Book 1 of theLeft Ginza. According to theLeft Ginza, he is called "Death" in the world, but asKushta ("Truth") to those who know of Ṣaureil's true heavenly nature.^[3]
