Satyendranath Tagore (1 June 1842 – 9 January 1923) was an Indian civil servant, poet, composer, writer, social reformer and linguist fromCalcutta,Bengal. He was the first Indian who became anIndian Civil Service officer in 1863.[1][2][3] He was a member ofBramho Samaj.[1][2]
He was born toMaharshi Debendranath Tagore and Sarada Devi on 1 June 1842 atTagore family of Jorasanko inKolkata. His wife wasJnanadanandini Devi.[1][4] They had one son and one daughterSurendranath Tagore andIndira Devi Chaudhurani respectively.[2] He was a student ofPresidency College. He was the first Indian officer ofIndian Civil Service (ICS). He joined the service in 1864.[1][2]
He wrote many songs. His patriotic Bengali language song "Mile Sabe Bharat Santan, Ektan Gago Gaan" (unite, India's children, sing in unison), which was hailed as the first national anthem of India.[4]
He died on 9 January 1923 in Kolkata.[5][4]
