In 2015, several women students said that they had been sexually harassed at the institute.[7] Three teaching staff were suspended as a result.[7] One student said that she had been raped.[8]

In 2023, students protested about sexual harassment at the institute.[9]

In 2024, whenVipin Vijay was dean, complaints were made that he had sexually harassed a student and two staff at the institute.[10] The institute upheld the complaints and sacked him as dean, banning him from the campus.[10] Vijay challenged the process in the High Court of Calcutta, but the court refused to be involved.[11] He was then reinstated as dean in September 2025, and removed from post again a few days later following student protests.[10]
