Satigachha is acensus town in theRanaghat ICD block in theRanaghat subdivision of theNadia district in theIndianstate ofWest Bengal.[1]

The maps of Ranaghat I and Ranaghat II CD blocks, in theDistrict Census Handbook 2011, Nadia, shows the census towns ofKamgachhi,Raghabpur,Panpara,Aistala, Satigachha,Anulia,Halalpur Krishnapur,Hijuli andRanaghat (CT) forming a cluster aroundRanaghat. Certain other localities such asNokari,Nasra,Cooper's Camp,Birnagar,Habibpur,Gopalpur andParbbatipur are also linked with this cluster.[2]
Nadia district is mostly alluvial plains lying to the east ofHooghly River, locally known as Bhagirathi. The alluvial plains are cut across by such distributaries asJalangi, Churni and Ichhamati. With these rivers getting silted up, floods are a recurring feature.[3]

With these rivers getting silted up, floods are a recurring feature.[4] The Ranaghat subdivision has theBhagirathi on the west, withPurba Bardhaman andHooghly districts lying across the river. Topographically, Ranaghat subdivision is spread across the Krishnanagar-Santipur Plain, which occupies the central part of the district, and the Ranaghat-Chakdaha Plain, the low-lying area found in the south-eastern part of the district. TheChurni separates the two plains. A portion of the east forms the boundary withBangladesh. The lower portion of the east is covered by a portion of theNorth 24 Parganas district.[5] The subdivision has achieved reasonably high urbanisation. 41.68% of the population lives in urban areas and 58.32% lives in rural areas.[6]

According to the2011 Census of India, Satigacha had a total population of 9,847, of which 4,994 (51%) were males and 4,853 (49%) were females. Population in the age range 0–6 years was 956. The total number of literate persons in Satigacha was 7,213 (81.83% of the population over 6 years).[7]

As of 2001[update] Indiacensus,[9] Satigachha had a population of 8400. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Satigachha has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 69%, and female literacy is 60%. In Satigachha, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
According to theDistrict Census Handbook 2011, Nadia, Satigachha covered an area of 1.36 km2. Among the civic amenities, the protected water supply involved BWT, tap water from untreated source, hand pump. It had 2,700 domestic electric connections, 150 road light points. Among the medical facilities it had 1 dispensary/ health centre, 1 family welfare centre, 1 maternity and child welfare centre. Among the educational facilities it had 5 primary schools, 1 middle school, 1 secondary school, the nearest senior secondary school atAnulia 1 km away. Among the social, recreational and cultural facilities it had 1 stadium. Three important commodities it produced were cloth, bricks, medicines. It had branch offices of 1 nationalised bank.[10]
Ranaghat Sub Divisional Hospital (Anulia Hospital) with basic to moderate facilities including emergencies, in Satigachha, Anulia, Ranaghat & Habibpur (Jadav Dutta) Rural Hospital, with 30 beds at Habibpur, is the major government medical facility in the Ranaghat I CD block.[11]
