Saskatoon berry pie (also known assaskatoon pie,juneberry pie, orserviceberry pie) is a pie with saskatoon berry filling. The pie is a traditional Canadian dessert, particularly inSaskatchewan. Saskatoon berry pie is often served withwhipped cream,ice cream, or slices ofcheddar cheese.[1][2]

Saskatoon berry pie typically containssaskatoon berries, flour, sugar, and lemon juice.[3]Cinnamon ornutmeg may be added.[4]

The pie originated inthe Prairies region ofCanada. Often served withvanilla ice cream as a dessert, the pie is sometimes made withblueberries as a saskatoon berry substitute.[5][6][7][8]

In Canadian culture

In 2019,Canada Post released a stamp series called Sweet Canada, which included a stamp of saskatoon berry pie.[9][10] The stamps were of five traditional Canadian desserts, with the saskatoon berry pie stamp representing thePrairies.[11]

MusicianFred Penner has a song titled "Saskatoon Berry Pie."[12]

Saskatoon Pie! is a musical comedy written byGeoffrey Ursell that won Persephone Theatre's national playwriting competition in 1981.[13]
