Saryu Roy (born 16 July 1951) is an Indian politician, who was formerly aBJP leader inBihar andJharkhand. He left BJP before2019 assembly elections in Jharkhand, and won as an independent fromJamshedpur East, defeating the incumbentChief MinisterRaghubar Das.
He served as aMinister of Food and Supply Department in theBJP led government in the state ofJharkhand. He was elected toJharkhand assembly inDecember 2014 fromJamshedpur-West constituency for the second time after defeating his nearest rivalBanna Gupta by a margin of over 10,000 votes.
He was first elected as an MLA fromJamshedpur-West constituency in 2005. He lost the 2009 assembly seat by a narrow margin of around 3000 votes to the thenINC candidate Banna Gupta. Prior to this, in the undivided Bihar he served as an MLC for a six-year term from 1998 to 2004.[1][2]
On 4 August 2024, he joinedJanata Dal (United) in the presence ofSanjay Kumar Jha in Patna.[3]He was elected as an MLA fromJamshedpur-West constituency in 2024 on JD(U) ticket.
