Sarpedon (/sɑːrˈpdən,-ˈpdɒn/;Ancient Greek:Σαρπηδών) is the name of several figures inGreek mythology

  • Sarpedon, a son ofZeus, who fought on the side ofTroy in theTrojan War. Although in theIliad, he was the son ofZeus andLaodamia, the daughter ofBellerophon, in the later standard tradition, he was the son of Zeus andEuropa, and the brother ofMinos andRhadamanthus, while in other accounts the Sarpedon who fought at Troy was the grandson of the Sarpedon who was the brother of Minos.[1]
  • Sarpedon, aThracian son ofPoseidon, eponym of Cape Sarpedon near the outlet of theRiver Hebrus, and brother toPoltys, King ofAenus.[2] Unlike the other two Sarpedons, this Thracian Sarpedon was not a hero, but an insolent individual who was shot to death byHeracles as the latter was sailing away from Aenus.[3]
