Sareh Bayat (Persian:ساره بیات; born 6 October 1979) is an Iranianactress. She began her career intheatre in 2001 and, after studying acting, appeared in the television seriesA Fistful of Eagle Feathers in 2007. Her first cinematic role was in the filmImitator of Satan.
Bayat received critical acclaim for her supporting role in the award-winning filmA Separation (2011), for which she, along with the female ensemble, won theSilver Bear for Best Actress at theBerlin International Film Festival.[1][2] She was also nominated for theCrystal Simorgh for Best Actress at theFajr Film Festival for her leading roles inOblivion Season (2013),We Won't Get Used to It (2015), andAlmond Eyes (2024).
Sareh Bayat was born on 6 October 1979 inTehran,Iran.[3] She graduated with a degree in carpet design and trained in acting at the Karnameh Institute. Bayat began performing in theatre at age 22 and made her television debut in 2007 withA Fistful of Eagle Feathers. Her parents initially opposed her pursuit of acting, leading her to secretly study art at university to enter the profession.[4][5]
Bayat grew up in a family of four and has a younger sister named Sarvin, who is married toReza Ghoochannejhad, an Iranian footballer.[6]
She is married toAlireza Afkari, an Iraniancomposer andmusic arranger.[7]
Bayat holds a degree in carpet design and is an ambassador for Iranian handicrafts. She began her acting career in 2001, performing in theatre, television, and film, having trained at the Karnameh Institute. In addition to acting, she engages in costume design and painting. Her cinematic debut was inImitator of Satan (2006).
In 2011, she was cast inA Separation, earning theLondon Film Critics' Circle Award for Best Supporting Actress and, alongsideLeila Hatami,Sarina Farhadi, andKimia Hosseini, theSilver Bear for Best Actress at theBerlin International Film Festival.[8] In 2017, she won the Best Actress award at the Hafez Awards for her role in the seriesAsheghaneh.[9]
