Sarapion (Ancient Greek:Σαράπιον, also spelledSerapion) was an ancientport city located in theHorn of Africa.[3]

History

It was situated on a site that later becameMogadishu. Sarapion was briefly mentioned inPtolemy'sGeographia as one of the harbours a trader would encounter after sailing southernly on theIndian Ocean, passing along the way by theMarket of Spices (Damo) and the emporium ofOpone. The town is believed by modern scholars to have been positioned in the vicinity ofMogadishu andWarsheikh in present-day south-central Somalia.[4][5]
