Sarah Woodward (born 3 April 1963) is a British actress who won anOlivier Award in 1998 forTom & Clem and wasTony nominated in 2000 forThe Real Thing. Sarah is the daughter of actorEdward Woodward and his first wife, actress Venetia Barrett. She is sister of actorTim Woodward, and actor, voice artist, and screenwriterPeter Woodward, and half-sister to actress Emily Woodward, whose mother is actressMichele Dotrice.[1]

Career

Woodward trained as an actress atRADA,[2] graduating in 1983 with an Acting (RADA Diploma).[2] She won the Bancroft Gold Medal at Rada[citation needed], before joining theRoyal Shakespeare Company, where she appeared inAntony Sher'sRichard III,Kenneth Branagh'sHenry V,Roger Rees'Hamlet, andFrances Barber'sCamille.

She returned to the RSC in 1993, inThe Venetian Twins,Murder in the Cathedral,Love's Labour's Lost, andThe Tempest, the latter directed bySam Mendes. She has worked with Mendes in many other plays, includingLondon Assurance, withPaul Eddington (Chichester/Haymarket Theatre);The Sea withJudi Dench (Royal National Theatre);Kean, withDerek Jacobi (Old Vic/Toronto); andHabeas Corpus withImelda Staunton,Brenda Blethyn, andJim Broadbent (Donmar). She won the Olivier Award for best performance in a supporting role in 1998 for her role inTom & Clem byStephen Churchett,[3] withMichael Gambon andAlec McCowen. She was also nominated for a Tony Award in 2000 for her role in the Donmar Warehouse production ofTom Stoppard'sThe Real Thing,[4] which transferred to the Albery Theatre (nowNoël Coward Theatre) and then Broadway.
