Sarah Puntigam (born 13 October 1992) is an Austrian professionalfootballer who plays as amidfielder forHouston Dash and theAustria national team. She has previously played for German clubsBayern Munich,SC Freiburg, and1. FC Köln, Swiss clubSC Kriens, and French clubMontpellier.
Puntigam played in her youth withUSV Gnas from 2000 until 2007, helping them win the Eastern under-13 division twice and the under-15 division once. She then played withDFC LUV Graz in theÖFB Frauen Bundesliga from 2007 until 2009.[2]
Puntigam made her senior career debut in 2009 withBayern Munich II in the2009–10 2. Frauen-Bundesliga. She scored three goals in 25 appearances, before joining the first team in 2010.[3]
Puntigam joined Swiss clubSC Kriens in 2013.[2] In June 2014, she scored SC Krien's only goal in the 2014Swiss Women's Cup final 2–1 loss toFC Basel. Following the match the club disbanded, merging withFC Luzern.[4]
In April 2014, Puntigam returned to Germany, joiningSC Freiburg alongside former Bayern Munich and SC Kriens teammateNicole Banecki.[5] She scored four goals for Freiburg in 79 appearances.[3]
In July 2018, Puntigam joined French clubMontpellier as their first signing of the summer and the first Austrian in the history of the club.[6] During her time at the French club, she contributed 10 goals and assists in 71 appearances.[3]
On 5 May 2022, Puntigam joinedFrauen-Bundesliga club1. FC Köln on a two-year deal.[7] During the2022–23 Frauen-Bundesliga season, she scored two goals in 21 league appearances, as well as playing three matches in theDFB-Pokal.[8]
After leaving 1. FC Köln in July 2023,[8] Puntigam transferred to American clubHouston Dash, signing a deal for the2023 National Women's Soccer League season with an option for an extra year.[3] In September 2024, the club signed Puntigam to a two-year contract extension.[9]
Puntigam made her international debut on 4 March 2009 in a 2–1 win againstWales.[3] She scored her first two goals with Austria in a 6–0 win againstFaroe Islands on 3 March 2010.[3][10]
Puntigam was part of the 23-women squad who represented Austria and reached the semi-finals at theUEFA Women's Euro 2017.[11]
On 6 March 2020, Puntigam played her 100th match for Austria in a 1–1 draw againstSwitzerland.[12] On 17 September 2021, she played her 110th match for Austria and surpassedNina Burger to become country's all-time most capped player.[13]
Puntigam was part of theAustrian squad that was called up to theUEFA Women's Euro 2022.[14]
Puntigam was born in the Austrian city ofRaning.[6] She married her1. FC Köln teammateGenessee Daughetee in June 2022.[15]
