TheMadonna and Child with Six Saints, also known asSant'Ambrogio Altarpiece, is a painting by the ItalianRenaissance masterSandro Botticelli, finished around 1470. It is housed in theGalleria degli Uffizi, inFlorence.
It portrays theVirgin holdingJesus as theChrist Child enthroned with the saintsMary Magdalene,John the Baptist,Francis of Assisi,Catherine of Alexandria and, kneeling,Cosmas and Damian (patrons of theHouse of Medici). It is in fact most likely[1] that the latter are portraits of Medici members.Lorenzo il Magnifico and his brotherGiuliano have been considered. This painting is an example ofsacra conversazione, in which theMadonna and Child are surrounded by saints.
