Sanpasaurus ("Sanpa lizard") is a poorly knownsauropoddinosaur from theEarly Jurassic ofSichuan,China. Thetype species,S. yaoi, was described byChung Chien Young, in 1944. Thetype remains,IVPP V.156, consists of 20vertebrae,scapulae, forelimbs, and some hindlimb bones.[1]Initially reported by Young as anornithopodornithischian,[1] this specimen was unambiguously referred toSauropoda[2][3] in 2016 by McPheeet al.,[4] later refined to a basalgravisaurian position by Polet al. in 2020 and 2022, closely related toVulcanodon andTazoudasaurus.[5][6]Sanpasaurus is known from remains recovered from the Maanshan Member of theZiliujing Formation.
