Sannihit Sarovar is asacredwater reservoir in theKurukshetra district ofHaryana, India. It is believed to be the meeting point of seven sacredSarasvatis.[1] Thesarovar, according to popular belief, contains sacred water. Bathing in thesacred waters of thetank on the day ofAmavasya (night of complete darkness), or on the day of aneclipse is believed to bestow blessings equivalent to performing theashvamedh yajna.
Thesarovar, an important part of48 Kos Parikrama of Kurukshetra, is believed to be the meeting point ofseven sacred Saraswatis (see alsoSapta Sindhu). The Sarovar, according to popular belief, contains sacred water. Bathing in the waters of the tank on the day of Amavasya (night of complete darkness) or on the day of an eclipse bestows blessings equivalent to performing theAshvamedhaYajna.
Bathing in thissarovar is believed to offer peace to wandering and unhappy souls. Prayers andpind daan, amemorial service for the dead, is performed here. TheHindu genealogy registers at Kurukshetra, Haryana are also kept here. Alongside the sarovar are small shrines dedicated to LordVishnu, Dhruv Narayan, Laxmi Narayan, Dhruv Bhagat, SriHanuman and GoddessDurga. The Sannihit Sarovar is believed to be the abode of LordVishnu.[citation needed]
